Chances are you’ve heard of this popular clear aligner brand, but allow us to fill you in on the details of an Invisalign treatment! What they say is true – Invisalign aligners are practically invisible when you take good care of them, so you won’t have to worry about maintaining a professional appearance while you straighten your teeth. What’s more is that they’re completely removable, allowing you to eat all the foods you would normally and clean them easily. Invisalign truly is the most convenient way to straighten your smile!

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign actually works fairly similarly to traditional braces. As an orthodontic device, the aligners will apply gradually increasing degrees of pressure to your teeth. By strategically adjusting this pressure, Dr. Helal can encourage crooked pearly whites to straighten out.

What’s different about Invisalign is that instead of cementing brackets and wires to your smile, Dr. Helal will simply provide you with a set of clear, plastic trays. They’ll look and fit sort of like a low-profile mouthguard, and though their removability is nice, it’s important to wear them for at least 21 – 22 hours per day!

Who Invisalign Can Help

Thanks to advancements in clear aligner technology, Invisalign can help more patients than ever before. Here are a few examples of the types of orthodontic issues they can correct:

Crowded Teeth

Is there not enough room in your mouth for proper comfort and oral function? Your teeth may be crowded, meaning their misalignment is causing them to “crowd” up against each other. Fortunately, Invisalign can straighten out these pearly whites!

Gaps Between Teeth

Maybe you have the opposite problem – you have too much space between your teeth. Invisalign can help with too, by gradually shifting your teeth closer together.

Bite Alignment

Underbites, overbites, crossbites, and other jaw misalignments can be uncomfortable and make it more difficult to chew or speak properly. Nowadays Invisalign can also correct your jaw’s position and provide relief.

The Benefits of Invisalign

The two most notable benefits of Invisalign are its convenience and clear appearance. But there are plenty of other great things about it, such as:

  • Shorter average treatment times compared to braces
  • Quick and easy oral hygiene
  • Fewer and faster check-in appointments
  • No pinching, cutting, or sores!

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

The cost of an Invisalign treatment in Brighton will ultimately depend on the severity of your alignment issues and other personal factors. Whether or not your dental insurance plan will cover a portion of the costs also depends on the individual policy. However, we believe Invisalign is a beneficial treatment for those who want straighter smiles, so we offer alternative ways to make Invisalign more affordable! Call our office, and we’d be happy to discuss the cost of your treatment further.

Invisalign FAQs

Why Do I Need to Wear My Aligners for 20 Hours a Day?

Basically, if you don’t wear your trays for the recommended amount of time each day, then you’ll fall off-track with your treatment plan. If that happens, then more time (and money) will be necessary to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile you deserve. That’s why we encourage our patients to incorporate good habits into their routine, like putting their aligners back on shortly after brushing their teeth.

How Should I Clean My Aligners?

Good news: you don’t need any special or expensive dental care products to keep your aligners clean. In fact, there’s a good chance you already have everything you need at home, including a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear, mild dishwashing liquid. The real key to keeping your trays stain and odor-free is consistency. That means consistently rinsing them with clean, cool water when you take them off and consistently cleaning them twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Tip: Use the cleaning crystals when your trays need a deeper clean! You can also buy clear aligner cleaning tablets when/if you run out.

What Should I Do If I Lose One of My Invisalign Aligners?

If you lose one of your aligners, try retracing your steps, starting from the last place you know you had them. Oftentimes, patients find theirs somewhere unexpected, like the pockets in the pants they were wearing earlier, so do your best to be thorough. If you’ve searched everywhere but you cannot find your trays, then call our Brighton office. That way, one of our helpful team members can take a look at where you are in the treatment process and determine the best way to proceed.

Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Invisalign?

There are some foods we recommend avoiding to prevent an attachment from breaking and your teeth from chipping, like hard pretzels. We also encourage our patients to cut back on added sugar since ice cream, lollipops, and other sweet treats increase your risk of tooth decay dramatically. Outside of that, you can eat all of your favorite foods since Invisalign doesn’t come with any dietary restrictions!

What Happens After Invisalign?

During your Invisalign treatment, our focus is on moving your teeth and bite into proper alignment. After your Invisalign treatment, our focus is on preventing your teeth and bite from shifting. This is crucial because upwards of 50% of patients experience orthodontic relapse in the years following their time with braces, and we want to prevent that from happening to you.

The first step is taking the necessary impressions of your teeth and having a custom retainer made. The second step is making sure it fits and reviewing when to wear it (usually every night). The third step is taking good care of yours so it lasts!
