Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide sedation is also referred to as “laughing gas.” As a mild form of sedation, it is safe to use and offers to “take the edge off” during dental appointments. Our team will likely recommend nitrous oxide if you suffer from mild to moderate dental anxiety or need help to reduce a sensitive gag reflex. It can also be used to ensure stillness if you have a hard time sitting for prolonged periods.

The process requires the use of a nasal mask, which you will wear while inhaling the nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture. You will begin to feel the effects within minutes, allowing our team to complete the necessary dental work before turning off the gas and removing the mask. After breathing in pure oxygen for a few more minutes, you’ll no longer feel the effects and be free to drive yourself home after your appointment.
